Biller Reinhart Engineering Group, Inc. provided structural engineering services for the Spirit IAH Walkway Systems at George Bush Intercontinental Airport. The scope of work focused on the structural analysis and anchoring design of modular airside walkway and ramp systems used in support of Spirit Airlines operations at Gate A20. These systems included multiple configurations of mobile walkway units and associated components, all assumed to be anchored to existing reinforced concrete pavement.
The services included a comprehensive review of manufacturer-provided drawings, specifications, and supporting documentation, followed by detailed structural calculations addressing wind overturning, anchorage demands, and overall lateral stability. Wind loads were developed in accordance with the applicable building codes and standards, including the International Building Code and ASCE 7. Advanced structural analysis software was used to evaluate system performance and element capacities under governing load conditions.
Biller Reinhart prepared sealed calculation packages and anchorage drawings suitable for permitting and construction, clearly defining load paths and anchoring requirements to ensure safe operation of the modular walkway systems in an active airport environment.
