This project focused on a moment where art, architecture, and public space meet. At the C. Blythe Andrews Library, our role was to support the installation of a new bronze sculpture along Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard by designing the structural connection that secures it to a precast concrete bench.
While modest in scale, the work required careful precision. Our scope centered entirely on the point of attachment—translating artistic intent into a solution that is safe, durable, and respectful of the sculpture’s presence. We developed engineering calculations and signed and sealed drawings detailing how the approximately 400-pound bronze sculpture would be anchored to a 900-pound concrete bench using stainless steel bolts.
Special attention was given to wind load requirements under the Florida Building Code, ensuring the sculpture could withstand environmental forces without compromising its appearance. By limiting intervention to what was essential, the engineering remains largely invisible—quietly doing its job so the artwork can engage the public as intended: secure, grounded, and seamlessly woven into the civic landscape.
