Created as a permanent public artwork in Opa-locka, Triple Pods by artist Carl Musa called for a careful balance between creative expression and structural clarity. Working from design drawings prepared by EES Design Studio, our role was to help translate the sculptural vision into a solution that could be built safely and endure over time.
The effort focused on reviewing the proposed sculpture and its foundation from a structural standpoint. We evaluated site-specific gravity and wind loads, assessed the adequacy of the foundation size and anchorage, and confirmed that the installation could perform reliably in its environment. As the design progressed, structural recommendations were incorporated directly into the drawings, and an additional construction document was prepared to clearly define the foundation and related structural elements.
All calculations and drawings were signed and sealed by a licensed professional engineer, providing the assurance needed to move forward with permitting and construction. The contribution remains largely unseen, yet essential in supporting the artwork not by reshaping its form, but by quietly ensuring its stability, safety, and longevity as a lasting feature of the public realm.
