Westlake, Florida
EES Design Studio
This project supported the realization of a distinctive public art installation planned for James Business Park in Palm Beach County. Envisioned as a landmark within the site, the piece features a sculptural orange peel rising nearly nine feet, surrounded by a series of floral forms just under five feet tall. While playful in expression, the installation required careful engineering to ensure it could stand safely in a public setting exposed to Florida’s demanding climate.
Our role was to translate the artist’s vision into a stable, buildable reality. We reviewed the sculptural drawings for structural feasibility, evaluated site-specific gravity and wind loads, and designed the foundation and anchorage needed to support the installation over time. Clear construction documents were prepared to guide execution and ensure the work could be built responsibly and as intended.
Though modest in scale, the project reflects the quiet importance of structural engineering in public art—providing the unseen support that allows a symbolic form to stand with confidence, contribute to the landscape, and become part of the identity of the growing Westlake community.
