City of Miami Beach
The Pride Park Utility Enclosures project involved the structural design of concrete pads and screening systems for critical utility infrastructure within one of Miami Beach’s signature public spaces. The work focused on enclosing an existing Florida Power & Light load center and a municipal pump station with custom-engineered perforated aluminum screen structures that enhanced the park’s visual character while preserving operational access and safety requirements.
Engineering services included evaluation of existing site conditions; assessment and modification of existing foundations; design of new reinforced concrete foundations and slab systems; structural steel framing; aluminum screening panels; access gates; handrails; and stair modifications. Particular attention was given to the challenges of designing open-air enclosure systems that can withstand South Florida’s extreme wind loads while accommodating maintenance clearances and integrating seamlessly with the surrounding landscape and pedestrian environment. The resulting design transformed essential utility facilities into thoughtfully screened architectural features, enhancing the park’s appearance while providing durable, code-compliant infrastructure designed for long-term performance in a coastal environment.
