Fountain & Pine Street Bridges

BillerReinhart provided structural evaluation and repair design services for two City-owned bridges crossing Biscayne Bay and La Gorce Canal in Miami Beach. We began with detailed condition assessments, field investigations, hands-on structural inspections, and a review of the available record drawings to establish the condition of each bridge structure and define the scope of rehabilitation/repairs required. From those findings, we developed the repair details and carried them through to a complete, biddable construction document set including repair drawings, technical specifications, and construction cost estimates the City could put out to budget, bid, and build with confidence.

Both bridges sit in an aggressive marine environment, where chloride exposure and constant salt air accelerate deterioration, so durability drove the design decisions. The design of repairs targeted the areas we identified in the field and focused on extending the service life of each structure as far as practical, getting the most out of the City’s investment. The end result gave the City a clear, prioritized path forward for the rehabilitation work: a program that keeps these crossings safe and in service for the public and holds up against the coastal conditions that caused the wear in the first place.
