The Palace Condominium
Seawall Structural Evaluation at The Palace Condominium
This project consisted of a structural evaluation of the existing seawall, the design of a new continuous seawall system, assisting the client during bidding and negotiations, and providing our construction services (shop drawing/submittal reviews, construction inspections, progress meeting attendance, etc.). The Palace Condominium is located in Miami and abuts the Biscayne Bay with an estimated 400 linear feet of seawall. The existing shore protection included three separate antiquated seawall systems which had an urgency to be replaced for proper bayfront protection. This project required intense regulatory review and detailed attentive coordination for barge mobilization and pile installation. The project included:
- Initial site investigation of existing seawall structures with observations showing a loss of fill through the existing seawall;
- Design of a seawall that meets the needs of the City of Miami, Miami-Dade Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM), and The United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE);
- Special inspections in relations to steel and concrete placement of all pre-cast structural members;
- Special inspections of batter and king pile installation to ensure piles were within tolerance;
- Responding to field conditions and providing real time engineered solutions;
- Overseeing final grading and project completion;
With the valuable services we were able to provide our client on this project, BillerReinhart was able to design, manage, and deliver The Palace Condominium a new functioning seawall system that will continue to provide the property with bayfront protection.
