Centro Español Ybor

Biller Reinhart Engineering Group provided structural engineering services for the Centro Español Ybor, a historic Tampa landmark that was affected by recent rain and thunderstorms. The assignment centered on the building’s southwest finial, where damage to concrete block, brick, cementitious finish, and roofing membrane required careful assessment and repair planning.

Following design documentation, the team returned for final site observations as the prefabricated precast concrete finial was installed and the clay brick tower base was reconstructed.

The completed work closely replicated the original stucco banding, restored the brickwork with repaired mortar joints, incorporated helical and stitching ties, and included replaced or reinstalled roof flashings. Minor mortar divots and hairline cracking were identified for touch-up, reflecting the attentive closeout process behind the restoration.

The project helped restore a distinctive rooftop feature to the Ybor City skyline while supporting the preservation of the building’s historic architectural character.
